One of the ways the Foundation advances informed medical decision making is by providing a web site to support excellence in health and medical news reporting.
HealthNewsReview.org is a website dedicated to improving the accuracy, balance and completeness of news stories about new medical treatments, tests and procedures. It also aims to help health care consumers to evaluate the evidence for and against such new ideas in health care. The site was built because of our growing concern about the quality of information given to health care and news consumers about new ideas in medicine and health care.
Helping Journalists & Consumers
Health News Review gives consumers a comprehensive, unbiased health news evaluation tool, so that they can make informed decisions about various article claims regarding treatments.
News stories that make claims about new drugs, medical devices and tests can hurt more than help consumers if they fail to deliver information on alternatives, costs, potential harms or benefits, and possible conflicts of interest.
This website uses tough but fair criteria to evaluate such news stories. It strives to help journalists improve their work and to help consumers weigh the evidence as they make health care decisions.

| “On a practical level, the main role of HealthNewsReview.org is to show journalists weaknesses, strengths and patterns of mainstream medical reporting. It’s a wonderful venture and a very important effort.” |
